Laura On Yellow
Laura B. Fernández is my invaluable Spanish model, collaborator, confidante and friend. She even endures my political rants, conspiracy theories and apocalyptic prophecies. If she laughs, she doesn’t mention it.
Laura has had some hard times recently. She had to withdraw from posting for a while, but she is gradually returning to life online. I painted this picture with that in mind: Here, Laura emerges from melancholy shadow and looks toward the cheerful yellow of better times. Van Gogh used yellow as a symbol of life, and I have followed his example.
This picture is based on one of Laura’s own photos (see them at http://laurabfer.tumblr.com) but I have employed an exaggerated palette in order to tell my story. I mean, hers.
Absolutely love you Van Fuller!
